Sleep

Beauty sleep is really a thing! 😴 Getting 7-9 hours of sleep at night can noticeably enhance your appearance.  Why?  Because your skin repairs itself and makes new collagen while you sleep (hence, the beauty part) and it’s more receptive to skin care products.  While your skin is repairing itself, it can become dehydrated in a low-humidity climate.  Due to this, it’s important to cleanse your face before bed and apply a thick moisturizer.  A thicker, more hydrating moisturizer, like our Chasing Revitalization Kombucha Crème (shameless plug) will keep you moisturized all night.

Sure, getting 7-9 hours of sleep is ideal but how can you do that when your mind is in several different places and you’re having a hard time getting to sleep?  Glad you asked!

First of all, are your pillows skin friendly?  I’m someone that can’t get to sleep unless I’m on my stomach.  I know, I’ve been told it’s the worst position in which to sleep for my back and my skin.  I’m trying to train myself to sleep on my back but it’s an uphill battle.  So, I make sure to have silk or satin pillowcases on my pillows as they minimize skin irritation.  If you sleep on your back, you win!  Keep it up!

Now getting to the actual sleeping…🛌

As mentioned in my blog about reducing stress (read it here if you missed it) Take advantage of your phone’s features by using the scheduled ‘do not disturb’ element or turning on the ‘night shift’ which automatically shifts the colors of your display to the warmer end of the color spectrum after dark.  Which can lead to a better night’s sleep.  Try to utilize these features at 1-2 hours before bed so you can begin to wind down.

Additionally, if you are having trouble winding down, try using some calming oils in a diffuser, or drinking an herbal tea.  Lavender, Chamomile and Peppermint seem to work best.

The takeaway for healthy skin:

  1. Get 7-9 hours of sleep each night
  2. Wash your face and moisturize with a thick, hydrating moisturizer like our Chasing Revitalization Kombucha Crème
  3. Our Chasing Calm Toner has organic lavender. Use in your skin care routine right before bed to destress and prepare you for a restful sleep.
  4. Use silk or satin pillowcases to minimize skin irritation
  5. Start winding down 1-2 hours before bed

Your skin will thank you!
